STORYTELLING PROGRAM

Have a story you always tell at dinner, on road trips, or when someone says, “Wait, what happened?” Storytelling classes are for anyone who wants to turn real-life moments into something compelling, funny, honest, and memorable.

Through guided exercises, feedback, and plenty of practice, you’ll learn how to find the heart of your story, shape it for an audience, and bring it to life with your own voice and point of view. Our instructors will help you move from a loose memory or idea to a polished personal story, ready to share in a supportive class-ending showcase.

You do not need to think of yourself as a performer to take a storytelling class. These courses are perfect for anyone who wants to become a more confident communicator, explore their creativity, connect with new people, and make everyday experiences feel meaningful and unforgettable.

Storytelling is the latest addition to our growing Indianapolis education program. We are starting with Storytelling 1, but will eventually grow the program to include a second course as well as workshops and drop-in classes.

SKILLS FOR LIFE AND WORK!

Stand-up comedy isn’t just about getting laughs – it’s a surprisingly powerful way to boost your confidence, make new connections, and shake up your routine. Whether you’re chasing the spotlight or just looking for a creative outlet, here’s how stand-up can upgrade your life on and off the stage:

  • Get Started & Get Hooked!

Here’s a shorter, lively version: Stand-up can feel scary, but our classes make it easy and fun. With supportive instructors and a group of fellow beginners, you’ll shape your jokes, build confidence, and learn what works. By the end, you’ll have a solid set—and the confidence to rock it!

  • Scheduled Fun & Creativity!

A stand-up class is a fun way to beat stress and boost creativity. You’ll turn everyday moments into jokes while keeping your imagination sharp with writing and performing. It’s the perfect creative reset!

  • Expand Your Friends Circle

A stand-up class is a great way to meet people who share your sense of humor. Writing and performing together creates connections that often turn classmates into lasting friends.

  • Boost Real World Skills!

A comedy class boosts your confidence, sharpens quick thinking, and teaches you to engage any audience. These skills pay off everywhere—from work and interviews to parties—helping you come across as confident and authentic.

  • No Experience Necessary!

There is no experience necessary to take any of our beginner courses!

STORYTELLING 1

TYPE: Core | PREREQUISITE: None! | COURSE LENGTH: 6 Weeks, Two Hours Each Week | INSTRUCTOR: Sherra Lasley
Learn the basics of storytelling from mining your life for stories to tell to learning how to tell them with specificity, authenticity, and humor.

Everyone has a story, but not every story is ready for the stage. In this six-week beginner-friendly class, you will learn how to find a personal story, shape it with structure and stakes, bring scenes and characters to life, use humor authentically, and perform with confidence. Through writing exercises, in-class telling, supportive feedback from an active storyteller, and performance practice, you will develop one five- to seven-minute story from first idea to final draft.

This class is ideal for curious beginners, improvisers, stand-ups, writers, professionals, and anyone who wants to become a more engaging communicator. No previous writing, comedy, or performance experience is required. The course ends with an optional student showcase.
